Beth Harmon is sent to an orphannage at the age of eight. She, suddenly discovers two ways to escape from her surrounding. Playing Chess and taking the little green pills given to her to  keep her subdued.

Thanks to her prodigious talent for playing chees, she progresses to the top of the US chess rankings. But she can´t avoid her urge to self-destruct.

Sooner or later, for Beth, playing chess is more than a game, it is a race for life.
